INDONESIA
One of the country, where The Greenpeace Organisation runs, is Indonesia. Indonesia has a lot of forest and therefore, is the home to many plants and animals. But it’s destruction causes a large amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide that causes global warming, and also affects the living standard of the people living there. The peatlands of Indonesian forest contains about 35 tonnes of carbon. The mass destruction of Indonesia's rainforests and carbon-rich peatlands for palm oil and paper threatens the forests and this is the main reason why Indonesia is one of the world's largest emitters of climate changing greenhouse gases.
Till 1970, Indonesia had a forest cover of more than 170 million ha, by the 20th century it decreased around 98 ha, due to deforestation.
